The student foundation board I serve on through the UNC APPLES class, “Philanthropy as a Tool for Social Change,” has officially launched our RFP. Keeping the core mission from previous semesters, we’re focused on funding organizations that serve vulnerable populations of North Carolina. For our foundation board this year, our request is specifically geared toward those who serve immigrant and refugee communities.

Despite our varying backgrounds, interests and biases, we unanimously chose this focus, and I think that needs little explanation given recent events. I’m humbled to be a part of such a thoughtful, passionate group of students and am looking forward to taking on the challenge of evaluating grants with them.

Follow along our journey on our class blog, and stay tuned for more updates on the board, supported by the Learning by Giving Foundation.
